Silent who?

The Silent Sports Sounds Off Blog is an adjunct of Silent Sport Magazine’s online offerings; a means to publish breaking news and views between the monthly press runs for the print edition.

While this blog will offer more timely information, it will maintain the magazine’s focus on nonmotorized aerobic recreation as enjoyed throughout the upper Midwest (namely Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, northern Illinois, northeastern Iowa and Ontario, Canada).

The heart of the silent sports community are bicyclists (road and mountain), runners, paddlers (of canoes and kayaks), cross-country skiers, snowshoers and inline skaters.

In Wisconsin, where the magazine is published, we make up the “silent majority” – at least 85 percent of outdoor recreationists, according to the 2005-2010 Wisconsin Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan published by the Department of Natural Resources.

Naturally, motorized recreation – particularly increasing ATV riding on public land – is a cause of concern for many of us on many levels. That’s why Silent Sports serves as a wreakreation watchdog as well as an advocate for preserving and expanding quiet, nonmotorized trails, public parks and wild areas.

This blog is maintained by Joel Patenaude, editor of Silent Sports magazine.
